Spinal Injuries

Spinal Structure

The Spine is made up of 23 bones, of which the Cervical bones are of most importance to protect, as they are normally the bones that get injured during an accident.

Any of the following can cause a spinal injury:

1.     Motor vehicle, Motor bike or pedestrian accident.

2.     Assault

3.     High voltage electrocution

4.     Contact sport

5.     A fall from a height

6.     Any head injury

7.     Stab wounds to the back

AT ALL TIMES THE NECK AND BACK MUST BE TREATED WITH GREAT CARE.

Next week we will discuss the treatment of spinal injuries.
